How to make herbal-infused vinegar

Herbal-infused vinegar
Making herbal-infused vinegar is a delightful way to add unique flavors to your dishes. Here's a simple
recipe for herbal-infused vinegar for use in the kitchen:
Ingredients:
1. Dried or fresh herbs of your choice (e.g., rosemary, thyme, basil, tarragon, garlic)
2. White wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar
Equipment:
Clean, dry glass jar with a tight-fitting lid
Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
Funnel
Dark glass bottle for storing the infused vinegar
Instructions:
Choose Your Herbs: Select dried herbs that complement the flavors you enjoy. You can experiment with
single herbs or create a blend for a more complex taste.
Prepare the Jar: Ensure the glass jar is clean and completely dry. Choose a jar size that accommodates
the amount of vinegar you want to infuse.
Combine Herbs and Vinegar: Fill the jar with dried or fresh herbs, leaving some space at the top. Optional: Heat the vinegar in a saucepan just until it's warm (not boiling). Pour the warm vinegar over the
herbs in the jar, ensuring they are fully submerged.
Infuse: Seal the jar with the lid tightly and place it in a cool, dark place. Let the herbs infuse in the vinegar
for about 2-4 weeks, shaking the jar occasionally to enhance infusion.
Strain the Vinegar: After the infusion period, strain the vinegar using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean bowl or another jar. Press the herbs to extract all the flavorful liquid. Personally, I just leave the herbs in the jar with the vinegar and just use it straight from the jar.
Bottle and Store: Use a funnel to transfer the strained vinegar into a dark glass bottle for storage. Dark
bottles protect the vinegar from light and maintain its quality. Or just store in a dark cupboard if clear
bottles or jars are used. Label the bottle with the infusion date and the type of herbs used.
Storage: Store the infused vinegar in a cool, dark place. The vinegar can be kept for several months, up
to a year. Usage: Use your herbal-infused vinegar in salad dressings, marinades, and as a flavorful addition to
various dishes. Experiment with different herb combinations to find your favorite flavor profile.
This herbal-infused vinegar adds a burst of unique flavor to your culinary creations and makes for a lovely
homemade gift as well. Enjoy experimenting with different herbs and vinegars to create your signature
blend!
