Dehydrating fruits and vegetables off-grid

A car works great as a dehydrator during hot
days. Leave to windows down by a 1cm to allow
moisture to escape.

Harvesting herbs and other botanicals

Harvesting herbs is a simple process, and the method can vary slightly depending on the type of herb
you are harvesting. Here's a general guide to help you harvest herbs:
Choose the Right Time: Harvest herbs when they are at their peak, usually in the morning after the dew
has dried but before the sun gets too hot. This is when the essential oils in the herbs are most
concentrated. Use Clean Tools: Make sure your harvesting tools, such as scissors or pruning shears, are clean and sharp. This helps prevent the spread of diseases and ensures a clean cut. Harvest Regularly: Harvest herbs regularly to encourage bushier and more vigorous growth. This is
especially important for annual herbs. Leave Enough Growth: When harvesting, avoid taking more than one-third of the plant at a time. Leave
enough foliage for the plant to continue growing and thriving. Cut Above Leaf Nodes: When using scissors or shears, cut above a set of leaves or leaf nodes. This helps
the plant to produce new growth from that point. Harvest Individual Leaves: For herbs like basil and mint, harvest individual leaves rather than whole stems. This allows the plant to continue producing.
